For the love of food, Hemelhuijs opened its doors in October 2010. With its all black interiors and whimsical displays of fresh flowers and object trofee, the restaurant is a small oasis in the heart of Cape Town city and offers an ideal escapism from hustle and bustle. Sit and watch the city go by while indulging in freshly made jewel coloured juices, paradisal cocktails or custom blended coffee and order from the all day menu.

Jacques Erasmus and the Hemelhuijs team carefully source ingredients and interweave the flavours of childhood memories and that of the exotic. The menu changes twice seasonally and also features touches brought from our world travels. Their offerings are presented in generous hand crafted vessels and service is simple, attentive but relaxed. Hemelhuijs is a daytime restaurant but we also open every Wednesday evening for dinner. The dinner menu reflects comfort and dishes that is crafted with the finest and freshest ingredients available on the day.

Homeware Collection

Hemelhuijs also boasts it's own home ware range, and patrons can experience this unique range first hand in the restaurant, from the minimalist and clean lined solid oak chairs and tables, to the bowls, plates and vases that is part of our everyday use.

With a passion for ceramics, Jacques Erasmus focuses on handcrafted pieces in black ceramic, oak and marble. Shapes are researched and inspiration is sometimes drawn from ancient ceramics and objects. Each piece is hand crafted by master artisans in their trade and produced in South Africa. The range boasts a tableware series, ceramic lights, furniture and other once off commissioned pieces and objects. The luxurious range is made durable for everyday use and limited quantities are produced of each.

They supply to local as well as international designers, restaurants looking for unique crockery as well as individuals. We also offer the service of larger orders on commission.
